BCD wins BTN awards for helping protect the planet

BCD received the “Achievement in Sustainability – TMC” recognition at the 2024 Business Travel Sustainability Awards & Summit for Europe and the Americas. The awards were announced May 8 and May 14 at BTN events in New York City and London.

BTN’s Business Travel Sustainability Awards & Summit supports advancements in sustainability and climate action policy adoption. The awards acknowledge companies that are working to align business travel programs with sustainability initiatives and practices. BCD was an inaugural recipient of this recognition in 2023. And, we were honored again this year for our environmental efforts and achievements, including:

  • Our internal employee engagement campaigns to address eco-anxiety and personal carbon footprint reduction, fostering advocacy for BCD’s environmental strategy.
  • Helping our clients support their environment goals via collaborations with key functions in our company, including program management, sales, product development, operations, and BCD’s Advito division. We provide resources, presentations, glossaries, policy compliance analysis, education programs, and research papers to encourage our clients’ sustainability practices.
  • Routinely integrating practices to reduce the environmental impact of internal travel, meetings, and events.
  • Enhancing our environmental data management and collection processes to help further improve data quality. We also work with our consultancy to further analyze Scope 1 and 2 emissions reduction opportunities, explore renewable electricity sourcing options, and define and measure Scope 3.

How BCD uses technology to help protect the planet

Further, we’re optimizing how we use technology products to help protect the environment. This includes:

  • Providing comprehensive data and reporting capabilities for air, hotel, rail, and car CO2 emissions.
  • Raising awareness of sustainable options for travelers, including integrating travel policy guidelines into our award-winning TripSource® platform.
  • Making flight and hotel emissions calculations available on itineraries.
  • Integrating push messaging to influence sustainable practices, such as taking public transport to the airport or using a shuttle to the hotel.

Ways BCD measures and reports sustainability progress

To measure and report our progress on sustainability, we align with globally recognized frameworks such as the United Nations’ Global Compact (UNGC), Sustainable Development Goals, Global Reporting Initiative, and Committee for Development Policy (CDP). Also Science Based Targets Initiative, ISO 14001/45001, and EcoVadis. In 2023, we achieved our fourth EcoVadis Platinum sustainability rating, ranking in the top 1% of all assessed suppliers. Our Advanced Carbon maturity rating for the Carbon Action module places us in the top 2% of 15,000 evaluated. Our annual sustainability progress report, externally assured and submitted to the UNGC, includes carbon emissions published in a yearly Carbon Verification Statement. Additionally, we have consistently engaged in the CDP Climate Change assessment for the past 12 years.
